Drivers can take steps to make their tires last a long time and keep tread wear low. Learn five ways you can keep tread wear low by reading below.

  1. Make sure wheels are aligned upon tire installation and as the owner’s manual recommends. Typically, wheels become misaligned after bumping curbs, hitting speed bumps at too quick a speed, running over potholes or other similar occurrences. When wheels are misaligned, the tire wear becomes irregular and may result in having to replace tires earlier.

2. Tire rotations are a vital step drivers can take to keep the tire wear even for front and back tires. Often, front tires receive more wear because they often carry the weight of the engine, handle the drivetrain and steering. Most tires need to be rotated every 3,000 miles or 5,000 miles to avoid irregular tire tread wear.

3. Drivers should keep their tires inflated to the recommended PSI so they can operate at maximum efficiency.

4. Drivers should buy tires that are made for the conditions they are driving through. Summer tires are not ideal for driving through winter conditions. 5. Tires should be balanced each time they are rotated to ensure that tire wear is even.
