Growing up, one of our favorite times in grade school was going to the annual Sock Hop, dressing with our coolest socks on and dancing the night away with serious 50s vibes to boot. That’s why we’re so proud to be the title sponsor for the Wingate Elementary Sock Hop, happening on March 1st – it’s sure to be a perfect family event, so keep reading below to see what’s going on and why you and the kids should swing by!
From 5:30 to 7 pm in the Wingate Elementary gym, the floor will come alive with traditional sock hop dances (like the jitterbug and tango), as well as more modern favorites. There will also be plenty of fun times in store, like a limbo contest, hula hooping, performances from the Wingate 5th grade band, a best socks challenge, and even more.
We should also mention that tickets and coupons will be available for a dollar each at the event. With these, you can get snacks (including root beer, orange cream soda floats and pizza), entrance to the Sock Hop Art Walk, and photo booth admission. You can also enter into a drawing for a new barbecue grill, propane tank and goodie basket – what’s not to love?
One of our favorite parts of Wingate’s annual Sock Hop is that all proceeds from it go directly to benefit the school’s art program. In addition to ticket and coupon sales, there will also be a Silent Auction taking place, intended as a fundraiser for Mrs. Balzer, Wingate’s Artist in Residence. Bids will be open from 5:30 to 6:45, and we’re sure there will be lots of cool stuff to take home!
